The Future of LCHS, Inc. - FAQ's

We are grateful and encouraged by the engagement and support since our announcement yesterday. Below are answers to questions we have seen in the comments– feel free to contact us with any others!

Is the situation beyond repair? Is there anything that the community can do to help you remain open?

- While we are appreciative of the way our community rallies around our fundraising efforts, the uncertainty surrounding our monthly financials makes operations challenging. We have put business and pet sponsorship initiatives on hold, because we are unsure if we will be open to deliver on any promises. However, if you are a business that would potentially be interested in such a relationship, please reach out!  We remain open to a Hail Mary event, but needed to announce a final date to remain transparent about our current situation.  We also owe it to our staff to allow them to make other plans should they choose to.

What happened with the Sheriff/County Contract?

- We no longer have a contract with Leavenworth County, as the Sheriff chose not to renegotiate.

Will the organization continue if the facility closes?

- This will be a topic for our Board of Directors to consider on February 19 at our next meeting.

I have an idea for a fundraiser, who should I contact?

- Please contact Rebecca Hollister, Vice President and Chair of the Fundraising Committee, at vp@lchsinc.org. We are so appreciative of all fundraising ideas, but we are particularly grateful to those who are able to help us execute any ideas or events!

I want to reach out to the media/I am the media, who should I contact?

- Please contact Rebecca Hollister, Vice President, at vp@lchsinc.org, or contact the shelter at 913-250-0506.

If you are closing, what will my donations go toward?

- We still have bills and we still need to supply food and care for our animals. We still have our mortgage, utilities, insurance and payroll for animal care staff, so rest assured that your donation will help the animals in our care.

What will happen to the animals that are still in your care after March 31st?

- Many will be transferred to other no-kill shelters. We are still open Tuesday – Friday from 12PM – 6 PM and Saturday from 9AM - 1PM.  We will make sure that every animal currently in our care remains safe throughout this process.

I want to help you guys out, where can I donate?

- Thank you so much! You can donate via https://www.lchsinc.org/donate

or on our GoFundMe at https://gofund.me/edaa6b53

You can call, come in, or mail donations as well.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns! We will keep the public informed as we continue to evaluate our situation. ❤
