Leavenworth County Humane Society

Foster

Until we open the shelter, we can only intake pets when we have suitable foster homes available for them.

That means that far too often, we have to say “no” when someone asks us to take in a pet.

Our foster homes complete a volunteer agreement and a foster agreement, AFTER we meet and decide together what sort of pets could work in your home.

We pay for the home to be registered with the State of KS (a requirement).

Foster homes keep pets in their homes, help with training, get them to events, take them to veterinary appointments.  They provide food and litter, but we can help with that if we need to.  We can send litter box, crate.  We send leashes for dogs and collars / gas for dogs and cats.  We provide prevention against fleas/ticks/heartworm.  Foster homes treat pets like their own and ENABLE us to get them into those forever homes.
